PIPPING STRESS & SUPPORT

The Stress and Support engineers are responsible for carrying out the stress analysis of the lines, calculate the loads on structures and platforms and support the lines in accordance with the stress analysis. Stress and support activities are the final activities in the design of piping systems and without their evaluation the line cannot be issued for construction.

 Objective of Stress Analysis Courses

The main objective is to train an analyst that can address complex issues related to pipe stress and flexibility analysis of piping systems, in generation and process plants, always taking into consideration the current regulations related to the codes ASME B31.3, API, NEMA, etc.

Actually the added value of an experienced stress engineer lies in the ability to deal with the typical solution to these systems. 

The general objective of these courses is to identify the "typical problems" and bring to the student the tools required to find a practical solution for these systems, inside of the standard practice of this profession.

·    Introduce students to the concept of flexibility in piping systems, codes and related regulations

Study piping design configuration and stress analysis requirements for:

  •     Pumps
  •     Centrifugal and Reciprocating       Compressors Steam Turbines
  •     Heaters 

·   Studying the theoretical basis of piping stress analysis

  • Stress analysis considerations for the use and selection of expansion joints

·  Design and definition of piping supports

  • Stress analysis considerations to be taken into account during the analysis of the piping under the effect of slug flow

·  Calculation of piping systems on sustained and operation cases

 Analysis with CAESAR II Software

·  Introduction to dynamic analysis of piping systems

 

·  Solve real piping systems, including calculations of piping flexibility and pipe supports design

 

 

 

 


Methodology
 

These courses are designed following the learn by doing concept. Each module has a test and a practice exercise which will be solve by the attendants, with the help of the study notes and the teacher’s assistance. By the end of the course, the attendants will be able to perform the stress analysis of piping system.
